With the COVID pandemic sweeping the nation, most of us are now working from home. We weren’t ready for this. Our daily routines have been shaken up with not much light at the end of the tunnel. But that’s ok. We’ll still push through. This is a unique scenario that we have to stay positive through and make the best of it. This post won’t be too long. I just want to stress to everyone to stay safe during these trying times and be efficient as possible when creating music. Read below on a few things you can do to stay active musically. Reorder Your Music Area If where you create isn’t tidy, clean it! Shift some things around to get a new perspective. Make sure everything is where it needs to be so you can keep those creative juices flowing. Sort External Drives We know those files haven’t been put in the right folders. Documents are scattered across our desktops. Buckle down and tackle all that. I spoke about my music production structure last month. You can take a read here. Put those files in places they can easily be found. You don’t want to be searching for that one drum sound missing in a beat to find out it was deleted months ago. Analyze Distractions With all the newfound time we have on our hands, it’s easier now to get distracted. Pay attention to what’s keeping you from staying productive and limit it or completely eliminate it. Make Multiple Backups Now is the perfect time to get your files backed up. Do it NOW! FYI, a back up isn’t official until it’s in 3 separate places. If all you can do is 1, so be it. Have something you can fall back on. My setup consists of a cloud based backup, 2 local backups [internal computer drive and external drive for mobility] and last an archival location that’s not where I live. The archive is for files that are not actively in use but you have them for reference when needed. In the worst event, having access to your backups from multiple locations will be a God send. That’s it for this month folks. Again stay safe and I’ll see y’all next month!
