What’s up, everybody? ‘Tool here back with another post. All of us need to take a break from time to time and being in the music industry is no different. What I want to talk about in this month’s post is how to create content for those planned hiatuses and even the impromptu ones that seem to creep upon us. I’ve been producing for over a decade now and have seen my fair share of artists that have stepped away from music. Some longer than others and some for valid reasons. When those times come, you should be prepared to pull content out of the vault to keep your fan base engaged.
No artist wants to experience a constant uphill battle to stay on the radar of their fan base. Taking excessive breaks for too long will have your fans forgetting about you in a few weeks. The times we live in now along with technology has us expecting things fast and constant. Some artists know this and have taken advantage, all the while not even having a single or album out in months, years, etc. but they never seem to go away. This is where content planning comes in to play. There are too many avenues to travel to not stay driven. [Get it?] Are you going on a vacation? Promote and release a single that will span the time you'll be away. In between projects with no new material? Get your feature game up and keep your name buzzing until it’s time to drop again. Instead of releasing an EP why don’t you release each song as a single? Spread the dates out and you can have enough to last 6 months or more. The possibilities are endless, it’s just up to you to decide which fits your needs best. Keep in mind when stockpiling content that just because it’s “old” to you doesn’t mean it will be received the same way. In the words of Memphis Bleek: “Here's the rules: chop it, bag it, stash it, stack it Get in, get out, that's a O.G.'s classic” Until next month, stay creative.
